In the scale of very rough to very gentle, my normal facials at Carrie Lindsey is somewhere in the middle. You get exfoliation, she will do extractions, but there’s also a lot of face massage for lymphatic drainage and LED therapy and such to make you glow and look like you’ve just done the master cleanse. I love her and always recommend her.

Except Carrie was on vacation and it’s summer and my skin needed a deep cleaning. I had just done the trick where you press an ice cube where you feel like you’re getting a pimple and it worked (an easy and free thing to try at home) but I felt gross. And I just love facials. I sort of hate being in the salon, hate getting my nails done, but I love facials.

The first one I got was at the newish Faena hotel spa in New York. Faena is an Argentinean hotel whose Miami location is a really wild place of wonder, with some of the top “girlfriend of daughter” people watching of my life. They have a shaman and a hammam. I was psyched to go to the spa and got there like an hour early to do the sauna/steam room/cold plunge thing.
